摘要

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is one of the largest project oriented company in India with its well-known diversification in most of the fields. L&T is having an existing Cement Plant at Awarpur, Maharashtra, India. L&T ordered for their IPP 2 x 23 MW TG sets, 2 x 95 TPH 66 BAR x 495℃ AFBC boilers. Fuel used is Coal-cum-Washery Middlings. M/s Thermax Babcock & Wilcox Limited (TBW), Pune (India) a Joint Venture Company of Babcock & Wilcox, USA was awarded a contract for 2 Nos. Of boilers with Atmospheric Fluidised Bed Combustion (AFBC) Technology. These 2 boilers are few of the largest boilers in AFBC technology in India. These boilers have been designed, manufactured, erected and commissioned by M/s. Thermax Babcock & Wilcox Limited. This experience has been a first-of-its-kind for TBW. These boilers are Bi-Drum design, top supported units with multi-fuel nature. This paper discusses design features of the boilers, arrangement of pressure parts, under-bed fuel feeding arrangement, arrangement of combustion chambers, convective heat transfer surfaces, draft plant emission control equipment's, ash coolers. The start-up procedure is by means of oil start up with 30% load carrying capacity. Complete Design review has been also made at Babcock & Wilcox, USA. Boiler has been commissioned and there were some teething problems during commissioning. This paper also discusses operational problems, start up problems and performance related issues and erosion of evaporator coils. TBW has successfully sorted out these problems. This paper also discusses solutions undertaken. There was a stiff competition when the contract was finalised. Clients have imposed severe penalties in contract on performance issues, delivery issues, Power consumption issue and also added aggregated penalty. TBW could successfully overcome all these penalties. This paper also touches these guarantees and gives fair idea of success story. Result of the success story is -Client L&T has also placed one more order of 110 TPH AFBC Boiler for their another Steel Project in India.
