Time series analysis is a useful tool to describe the response of a lagoon to various forcing functions. Most series can be represented in the time domain or in the frequency domain. This has led to the development of corresponding time domain and frequency domain analysis methods. The time domain methods include correlation analysis, regression analysis and empirical orthogonal function analysis. Frequency domain methods include spectral analysis, coherency and phase analysis, frequency domain EOF analysis, harmonic analysis and wavelet analysis. Some of these methods have been described and examples of their application to real lagoon series were presented.
