St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) is committed to a continuing water supply planning process intended to identify water supply options capable of meeting projected needs, while protecting water resources and associated environmental systems. The first districtwide water supply plan was completed in April 2000. This plan, developed for a 20 year planning horizon, will be updated every 5 years. Water supply sources considered include fresh groundwater, brackish groundwater and surface water. Several analytical tools were developed to aid in the water supply planning process. These include, groundwater flow models, surface water yield analysis, water supply development cost models, groundwater withdrawal optimization models and economic optimization models. This paper describes the SJRWMD water supply planning process, the planning tools, planning process uncertainties and actions currently being taken to reduce uncertainty and to improve the integrated water supply planning process.
