Gate-to-Gate Simulation for Validating Collaborative Decision Making Applications

Traffic delays due to airport congestion and ground operations become more and more penalizing in the total gate-to-gate flight cycle. The Collaborative Decision Making (CDM) initiative should be considered as a philosophy, recognising that all relevant information needed for operational decision-making should be available for sharing. If information is shared by all actors who need it, then the decisions made will become more positive, more meaningful and more economic. The French Aeronautics and Space Research Center (ONERA) is designing a set of modeling and simulation facilities to validate and evaluate innovative solutions to improve efficiency and safety of ground and air movements. Simulation is achieved through the US DoD's High Level Architecture (HLA). In this paper we discuss an open and scalable gate-to-gate simulation kernel aiming at assessing the expected benefits of a set of CDM applications.
