Issuing a 'warning to humanity', world scientists say that "a new ethic is required - a new attitude towards discharging our responsibility for caring for ourselves and for the earth". Three words catch our eye: 'caring', 'ethic' and 'responsibility'. Whose words are these again? Scientists? It is almost hard to believe! Aren't these supposed to be heard within the domain of religion, the 'subjective' world - that oozy-woozy world kept at a distance by the 'objectivity' of their profession. So it has to be with more than a measure of delight that we read the words in a statement issued by over 1600 scientists around the world, 104 Nobel Laureates among them.
