摘要

The plasma waves and fluctuations in the Earth's foreshockrnregion have been explored using Cluster data. Inrnthis case study we have combinesd multi-point measurementsrnof the magnetic field, from the FluxGate Magnetometerrn(FGM) instrument, and the electric field, fromrnthe Electric Field and Wave (EFW) instrument, and usedrnthem in order to identify the encountered wave mode.rnThe k-filtering technique has been employed for the detailedrnexamination of the wave power density distributionrnin frequency and wave-vector space. This method alsornprovided the possibility to transform the wave field datarninto the plasma frame of reference, which enables comparisonrnwith plasma theory and the eventual identificationrnof the plasma wave mode. The combination of FGM andrnEFW data has allowed for investigation of the ratio betweenrnthe electric and magnetic power of the waves andrnit also enhanced the k-filteringmethod compared with therncase when only data from one instrument is used.
