Minnesota Road Research Project (MnROAD) was built in the early 1990s and has seen positive benefits related to its efforts during its initial research phase. As MnROAD enters Phase II of its existence several research projects have been initiated to help both Minnesota and its TERRA research members better understand how to build and maintain our roadway network.rnOne area of interest is pavement temperatures and how it affects pavement performance and design. This paper will explore the variations of pavement surface types, thicknesses, base types and other design parameters as they relate to temperature. Currently no one paper has been written capture these temperature gradients throughout the pavement structure.rnThis report provides a summary of the various temperature phenomena seen in selected pavement test cells at MnROAD. All available data was not analyzed for this report, but rather a few selected cells were analyzed for certain time periods. Therefore, the temperature extremes may not be the exact maximum or minimum for all the cells that were monitored, but should be within a few degrees and be representative to the system as a whole.
