Experiments on pine and oak wood untreated and treated with ammonium phosphates, ammonium sulfate and compositions of above mentioned compounds with urea and boric acid were performed in accordance with ISO 5660 (Cone calorimeter method). Time to piloted ignition and autoignition as a function of heat flux was measured. On the basis of time to ignition at different heat fluxes, the critical heat flux for untreated and treated wood was determined. The authors explain phenomena of accelerated ignition for treated wood compared to untreated one in the case when relatively low retention of FR was applied.
