摘要

The North London Artificial Recharge (NLAR) scheme comprises 37 wells and boreholes, some of which date from Victorian times, located in the Lee Valley and between Enfield and Haringey. The most recent phase of development comprised 15 new boreholes in Enfield Haringey alongside the historic New River aqueduct. All scheme boreholes discharge raw groundwater either directly to the Lee Valley reservoir system or the New River during the abstraction phase. This obviates the need for expensive on site water treatment at any borehole location. This greatly enhances the cost effectiveness of the scheme, which is designed to boost available resources during droughts. Fully treated drinking water provides the source of gravity fed artificial recharge water, via the normal distribution system.
