Sintering of nanosized CeO_2 and Ce_(0.8)Gd_(0.2)O_(1.9) with and without cobalt oxide doping was studied. The high shrinkage rates of the cobalt oxide doped powders at rather low temperatures lead to dense, nano-grain sized ceria solid solutions. Shrinkage rates from sintering experiments with constant rates of heating (CRH) were analysed with classical sintering models. Characteristic differences in the parameters of classical sintering models were obtained due to the cobalt oxide doping of CeO_2.
