Freeze-Thaw Stability of Slopesin Seasonally Frozen Regions of the Northeast China

The finite element analysis is used to investigate the effects of initial waterrncontent, freezing temperature and freeze-thaw layer thickness on the stability of thernthawing slope in a seasonally frozen region of Northeast China. The finite elementrnmethod with shear strength reduction technique is used to evaluate the stability ofrnslopes under the freeze-thaw processing. The numerical results indicated that thernslope stability decreases with increasing initial water content, debasing freezingrntemperature, increasing freeze-thaw layer thickness and thawing depth. Initial waterrncontent has the biggest influence on the slope stability. The above results enrich therninvestigations on the freeze-thaw stability of slopes in the seasonally frozen areas andrnprovide the instructions for engineering practice controlling the freeze-thaw stabilityrnof slopes.
