Based on the parametric variational principle (PVP), the wheel/rail relationrnproblem is analyzed in this paper with the help of the elastic-plastic contact modelrnand the FE parametric quadratic programming method. The precise computationalrnmodels are constructed according to the contact between the wheel tread and the railrntop. The influence of functionally gradient material on wheel-rail contactrnperformance is also investigated. Analysis of the results shows that the maximumrnstress on rails made of functionally gradient material is smaller than those made ofrnhomogeneous material when the wheel-rail contact is loaded.
