摘要

We present a formal data model for views in Object DataBase Systems(ODBS) as a transformation mechanism for databses.our modle relaxes the usual ocnstraint where an object belongs to a single class while using a geeralizaiton of referent and enables a deterministif creation of derived objects with ocmplex object indentifiers.We define an IQL-like language which enables the manipulation fo such referents.The view-base dtransformation is achieved in tow steps: an extension of the source instance followed by a projection of the extended instance.The extension and projectin can be carried out using four object algebraic operators,namely projection,join-specializaiton,join and generalizaiton,that specify both the virtual schema and its corresponding virtual instance.This simple algebra cna express most of the view operators porposed in the literature and provides a real restructuring of hte source schema and instance.
