The alternative HFC refrigerants have a different balance of properties to traditional CFCs and as a result, care needs to be taken in interpreting standard compressor rating tests in order to evaluate expected performance from this new generation of refrigerants.rnCompressor suction inlet temperatures specified by the standards influence rating performance through the effects of useful versus parasitic superheat and this requires engineers to re-evaluate the figures contained in the selection tables. In addition, the use of dew, bubble or mid-point pressures for compressor rating has been debated for refrigerants with temperature glide and whilst the choice of either the dew or bubble point simplifies the selection process, either choice is unlikely to produce compressor ratings which represent realistic performance in service.rnA number of key aspects of refrigerant temperature glide and thermodynamic properties are discussed with reference to differences in system and compressor performance. In particular, service performance can differ by up to 15% to the performance implied by standard compressor rating conditions.
