In 1997 Powell Duffryn Rail Projects set out to re-engineer the Low Track Force bogie transforming it from a highly individual, high cost, high tech freight bogie into a simplified, mid cost bogie which still delivered outstanding performance.rnThis has been largely achieved with the development of the Track Friendly TF25 bogie which currently encompasses two brake variations, push brake with off bogie actuation and integral push brake. A third variation for disc brake is under development. The process of UIC homologation has also commenced. The next stage will be to review the design, simplify again and further reduce the cost.rnThis paper sets out this process of transformation from high tech, high cost to low tech, low cost whilst retaining track friendly properties.
