In February of 2007, a new generation and the largest shipyard in the South America was established in Pernambuco State to build large crude oil tanker carriers, platforms, drill ships for domestic exploration of 80 to 100 billion barrels of recoverable oil and gas in vast reservoir in pre-salt district located 300 km off the coast. In order to support this new business, first, research field in naval and ocean engineering was added to graduate course of Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE). After that, undergraduate course in naval engineering and also Human Resource Development Program in shipbuilding technology were established at UFPE in 2010. However, due to the lack of academic and industrial experts in Brazil in naval and ocean engineering, international agreements were established with universities and shipyards, especially of Japan. In this paper, experiences of UFPE in Human Resource Development in Shipbuilding Technology are reported.
