摘要

Different approaches could be utilised to assess the regional and local impact of the military on the environment. Regional assessment is based on general information on anthropogenic load, geological-hydrogeological conditions of the area determining its vulnerability to pollution and also takes into account groundwater abstraction in the region. Some interpolation and extrapolation should be used to produce approximate figures of military impact to subsurface. There are natural protection barriers of potable groundwater resources in the form of soil properties and hydraulic properties of aquifers. However, low permeable soils are often defected by permeable zones or "hydrogeological windows" and hydraulic head is diminished by groundwater abstraction. Potable water consumption in the major cities of Lithuania have created the overlapping drawdowns. In areas such as these well protected aquifers become vulnerable to pollution.
