摘要

Body armour is becoming an essential part of a police officer's personal protective equipment. Officers rely on such garments to protect them against severe injury and at the same time require them to be "wearable" for the duration of their shift. This paper summarises the findings of an ergonomics comparison between the wearability of two types of armour, which was undertaken on behalf of Northamptonshire Police. This investigation initially involved capturing officers' requirements and exploring the wider system issues. User trials were then conducted in both a field and laboratory setting. The trial results showed that the majority of officers preferred the more modern designed armour over their current armour, with a strong preference towards overt wear. However, throughout the trial, officer opinion varied and as such the importance of providing officers with as much individual adjustability was emphasised.
