摘要

The article considers the merits of a heuristic for the design of problem solving interfaces that focuses on capturing the relational structure of the system underlying the problem. We argue that this is a powerful and economical method that will tend to satisfy unspecified information requirements for a broad range of interpretive tasks. We describe how these information effects depend on capturing certain subsumption relations over different levels of a system in the structure of the graphical representation. Concrete examples are given with respect to a prototype graphical interface for the domain of bakery scheduling.
