摘要

The Australian Defence Science & Technology Organisation (DSTO) has provided human factors expertise as part of an integrated project team (IPT) responsible for determining the feasibility, desirability and cost of redesigning the operations room of the Australian ANZAC class frigates. The process used was developed specifically for the project but drew upon ISO-11064, the DERA Human Factors Integration Guide and other handbooks. The needs capture involved a mixture of ship observations, interviews, questionnaires and an equipment audit of current and planned systems. The team developed room layout and console design concepts, which were driven by the physical ergonomics, communications, display and control needs of the personnel but were constrained by engineering limitations, crewing and cost. Computer visualisations allowed the IPT members and stakeholders to discover aspects of the design which were not otherwise apparent. A usability assessment process will include a ship team undertaking walkthroughs of critical activities.
