摘要

The proposal to join the levelling networks of France and United Kingdom through the Channel Tunnel arose in January 1991. After three years of negotiations between Eurotunnel, the Ordnance Survey (OS) and the Institut Geographique National (IGN), the survey was eventually carried out in February 1994 by a British team and a French one. First computations were then made and a disagreement was already noticed between both levellings, but this issue was left dormant. Because of the insistent demand of UELN for a precise link between Great-Britain and the continent, the Channel Tunnel levelling case was reopened last year. A new computation of the French levelling data was made, confirming an inexplicable disagreement between both levellings. Investigations were carried out in order to find reasons for this discrepancy; but to no avail.
