Automotive industry as well as packaging (food, cosmetics, pharmaceutic) or building industries show growing concern about VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) and odour released by the materials they are using or producing. Emissions have become a part of the specification of these products, as being seen as an annoyance for the consumer to the material itself or its environment.rnAs a consequence, a number of techniques have been developed to reduce the emissions of existing systems, principally by acting on formulation (new additives, resins, fillers,...) and processing conditions. There is therefore a need for accurate and objective measurements. For example, the development of odourless formulations involves very precise comparative studies in order to demonstrate the efficiency of the new products.rnThe influence of process conditions and formulation on odours and emissions was studied using a three-step methodology developed by Certech.
