摘要

Should scholarly publishing in the field of business and management be confined to scholars? What value can practising managers bring to research and research publishing? Practitioners are encouraged to manage knowledge by capturing and synthesising it - the transformation of tacit to explicit knowledge. What part does the scholarly publisher have in this kind of transformation? This paper explores some of the questions associated with this issue as it relates to the scholarly publishing industry and specifically to a management publisher, Emerald/MCB University Press. It discusses how "quality" applies to publishing, how this can include practice-derived papers, and whether it should be restricted to "proper" research (concluding that it should where possible extend to practitioner work).
