This paper discusses the progress in the development of a high performance TCO for thin film silicon solar cells achieved so far by Saint-Gobain. The main issues treated here are the studies about the chemical precursors (doping species and tin precursors), the subcoating between glass and TCO, durability and the results for large area industrial mass production of the TCO. A high-performance TCO was obtained, exhibiting an initial efficiency of 11.5 % for a 1 cm~2 micromorph tandem cell, and 10.3 % for a 30×30 cm~2 module. These R&D results allow Saint-Gobain to enter the PV market with a TCO substrate suitable for silicon thin film solar modules.
