The need to localize a radiating signal source is necessitatedrnin applications ranging from distant talker speech pick-up to automaticrnvideo camera steering. The majority of literature detailingrnsource localization is presented in the narrowband signal context;rnhowever, acoustic signals are naturally very broadband. As a result,rnclassical narrowband techniques do not apply in the strict sense,rnand as a result, the broadband localization literature is yet unrefined.rnThis paper details the manner in which classical narrowbandrnlocalization methods may be generalized to broadband signal environmentsrn– specifically, a nonlinear parametrization of the spatialrncorrelation matrix allows one to apply steered beamforming, minimumrnvariance, subspace, and linear predictive spectral estimationrnmethods to the broadband localization problem.
