Superoxide dismutase(SOD, EC 1. 15.1.1)catalyzes the dismutation of su-peroxide anio radical (O_2) to molecular oxygen (O_2)and hydrogen peroxide(H_2O_2)[1]. Superoxide disrnutases(SDSs) are present in all aerotolerant organisms for minimizing the concentration of the superoxide radicals. SOD in all living cells form the first defence line of cell against oxygen damage. On the basis of their metal ion content, three classes of SOD are recognised: Cu/Zn-, Mn-and Fe-containing enzyme, while all three forms of SOD catalyse the same reaction. SODs from various sources are currently of great interest as potential therapeutic treatments for oxidative damage and for protecting normal cells from damage due to anticancer medicines [4].
