The author's 30-years industrial experience is crystallized into several points to ponder bridging the gap between theory and practice. Experimental evidence and examples are presented. Approaches are suggested to estimate the minimum fluidization velocity and jet penetration depth at elevated temperature and pressure. A simple model is also proposed to describe radial gas profiles, radial solids flux profiles, and radial particle velocity profiles in the riser of a circulating fluidized bed.
