摘要

A pyroclastic flow is a gas-solid system, frequently in a fluidized state, originated by explosive volcanism. The theoretical framework within which a pyroclastic flow can be modelled is outlined. An experimental technique for the characterization of the extent and the rate of particle segregation in fluidized suspensions is presented, based on the combined use of a segmented fluidization column and of space-and time-resolved pressure measurements along the bed.
