The hydrodynamic behavior of fluidized beds and the measurement of rheological parameters of fine powders (Group A and C in Geldart classification) were investigated. Seven powders ranging in size and density from 7 to 50 #mu#m and from 1600 to 5200 kg/m~3 respectively were used. For this set of experiments, the apparent minimum fluidization velocity (U_(mfa)) was measured and found to be 1 to 200 times greater than the minimum fluidization velocity estimated by correlation. The deviation shows an increase with respect to the degree of cohesiveness of fine particles. The latter parameter was quantified by measuring the Hausner index which reflects the cohesiveness of powers. During the course of both experiments, the effect of bed heterogeneous structure was highlighted using X-ray tomographic aalysis.
