Isolated bubbles in a gas-fluidized bed have been examined using X-rays. The shell boundary has been defined and measured and its size was found to decrease asymptotically with increasing pressure, as did its aspect ratio. The internal structure of bubbles was reconstructed from the X-ray images so that the distribution of voidage can be seen.
