The hole-up and the elutriation rate of fine particles were measured by a Powder-Particle Fluidized Bed. The effects of operating conditions and the properties of tine particles upon the hold-up and the elutriation rate were investigated with continuous steady state operation. The following results were obtained. The hold-up of fine particles increased linearly with a decrease in the gas velocity and an increase in the feed rate of fine particels. The elutriation rate constant did not depend on the hold-up of fine particles. The hold-up and the elutriation rate constant depended on the kind and size of coarse and fine particles. Since smaller particles have larger cohesiveness, the hold-up increases and the elutriation rate constant decreases with a decrease in fine particle size.
