The specimens of 6061 aluminum alloy (size:15 mm×l5 mm×65mm) were treated on solid solution and aging under the condition of solution at 530 ℃ for 1 h, then quenched in water, and aged at 180 ℃ for 8 h followed furnace cool. The equal channel angular extrusion(ECAE) process of four passes was carried out, the load-stroke curve is recorded at the same time. The metallographic structure and the surface hardness were investigated after deformation. The results show that the metal flow lines are basically consistent with the extrusion direction; the grains are elongated and refined with the increase in the pressing pass. The surface hardness reaches peak value after two passes deformation, then decreases; the difference of the hardness between the middle and the end region becomes smaller with the increase of passes of ECAE. The extrusion load also reaches the maximum value at the second pass. It indicates that the dislocation of the material tends to increase first and decrease then during the four passes ECAE processing.
