Since the beginning of 1980s more and more companies in China have been trying to apply project management into routine management, and even those traditional companies have changed to management by projects that have helped them to achieve lots of success. For those project-oriented originations and companies, programme management has become the link between their strategies and project implementation. The article provides the status of the programme management, introduces the functional structure mainly used in IT organizations and matrix structure mainly used in construction organizations, and consequently, highlights the necessary of the implications of programme management for both practice and research.
