摘要

Neighborhood is the basic unit of the urban system. Relationships between neighborhood type and residents' travel behavior are the key problems in the urban land use and transport field, especially at the micro scale. The important issue of neighborhood design effects in residents' travel behavior is presented based on an extension of literature. In China, literature focuses much more on macro-scale study than on micro-scale research, which does not match the demand of rapidly changing urban areas. Obvious dissimilarities between changes of neighborhoods in China cities and those in western cities make pertinent case studies for China cities essential and urgently needed. Implications of present research are set forth based on the analysis of neighborhood development characteristics and extension of research on western cities. Characteristics of neighborhood development in China cities are put forward. As are those important issues, e.g., how is neighborhood type transforming and how does residential relocation change travel demand? For further research, travel behavior database should be set up, dynamic and disaggregating research at the neighborhood scale must be emphasized.
