The focus of this paper is on the use of two technologies to monitor a suspectedrnoverheating issue on unit 23 at Hydro-Quebec's Rapide-2 power station. Personnelrnconsulted with a condition monitoring company, who suggested a non contact probe tornmonitor the slip ring and a contact fiber optic sensor to monitor brushgear temperature.rnResults confirmed overheating of the slip ring and brushgear, with slip ring temperaturernreaching 145°C. Corrective actions were taken by the original equipment manufacturerrn(OEM) after test results confirmed overheating. Data collected after warranty workrnconfirmed the problem had been resolved.
