This paper summarizes the navigation development of the Ohio River, the existing andrnpotential hydropower of the Ohio River, and presents an overview and status of thernongoing development of three new hydropower projects on the Ohio River. AmericanrnMunicipal Power-Ohio, Inc. (AMP-Ohio) is developing the three projects at existing USrnArmy Corps of Engineers (USACE) locks and dams. The projects will develop aboutrn191 MW of renewable energy. The Willow Island Hydroelectric Project is located at thernWillow Island Locks and Dam and will be a two-unit powerhouse with an estimatedrngeneration capacity of 35 MW. The Cannelton Hydroelectric project is located atrnCannelton Locks and Dam and will be a three-unit powerhouse with an estimatedrncapacity of 82 MW. The Smithland Hydroelectric project is located on the Kentuckyrnshore at the Smithland Locks and Dam and will be a three-unit powerhouse with anrnestimated capacity of 74 MW.
