The paper describes a railway viaduct which will be included in the new TAV (Treno Alta Velocità)rnhigh-speed double track between Rome and Naples, near the entrance into Naples. Its constructionrnwill begin in the second half of 2003, and its structure will be formed by two parallel sequences ofrn2,400m long arches, designed to obtain the best structural performances and architectural effects.rnWhat’s more, the construction represents an original proposal for roads and railways when tracksrnrun nearly parallel to the plane of the site at a limited height as a substitute for embankments orrnconventional viaducts with isolated piles. This solution is to be preferred because of its low costs,rn(competitive with embankments in poor soils), the ease of construction and the large reserve ofrnbearing capacity.
