This paper presents the comparison of tworndifferent methods in the system identification. Thernexperimental modal analysis and operational modal analysisrnare applied to a local structure of a storage/retrieval machinern(S/R machine). The different vibration measurementrnapproach and different theoretic analysis approach give usrnmore information than only one approach. Through the result,rnthe consistence of two approaches is found, and thernvibrating integrality that is obtained from measurement underrnnormal operating condition is better than that is obtainedrnfrom measurement during exciting the structure by arnhammer. From the system frequency response functions thatrnobtained by measurement during exciting the structure by arnhammer, the high vibration response frequencies arernindicated clearly.rnOn the base of the two experiments, the vibration propertiesrnof local structure of a storage/retrieval machine arernthoroughly grasped. This is a foundation of structurernmodification to reduce the vibrating noise of storage/retrievalrnmachine during operating conditions.
