The paper describes the association of person's age with the risk of injury occurrence and the injury severity in traffic accidents. A representative sample from the German In-Depth-Accident Study (GIDAS) given the current situation of the injury situation of belted car drivers and was analyzed to show an influence of age on the A1S scaled injury severity and on special injuries to different body areas adjusting for relevant accident parameters as delta-v and human characteristics. Two age groups are in major focus particularly, that of young people (17 to 30 years) compared to older people (age 50 and above, so called 50 plus). The injury risk is described on injury risk curves AIS as function of Delta-V. Also other person individual parameter like age, BMI, vehicle age and mass are considered. The analysis was carried out by statistical sample analysis presented in descriptive and also by multivariate statistics. This paper presents an overview of injury pattern of belted car drivers and the probability of being injured as well as being severely injured in different accident scenarios and is showing the age related probability for special injury pattern on different body areas special focused on young versus elderly. A risk score to predict the AIS was developed from the resulting statistical analysis pointed out for the different body regions.
