The nature of UDC revision is briefly characterized. Two levels of it - the specialistic level and the general one -are distinguished. The new UDC revision structure - being implemented since the end of 1986 - is described and compared with the previous structure. The role of the Coordinating Revision Committees (CRCs) is underlined. The proposal of UDC revision policy is presented; this proposal is based on a compromise between the pragmatic approach to the current UDC revision and the necessity to ground the future revision activities on better methodological foundations. The transformation of the UDC into a fully-faceted classification system should be considered as the ultimate aim of these activities.
