On behalf of the Government of Finland it gives me great pleasure to extend to all of you a warm welcome to Helsinki and to this conference.rnInformation is a resource in its own right, as are raw materials or capital. The growing importance of information has led us to this new age of information. The present structural change of the economy is strongly influenced by data technology, making it a dominant source of growth and of new jobs created not only in the service sector, but in the primary and secondary sectors as well. Information services have greatly increased their share of the national output.
