Fog Computing Challenges and Future Directions: A Mirror Review

摘要

Fog computing proposed as a new computing model,, presented by Cisco, to meet the computational demands of a complex geo-distributed network of IoT devices. Fog computing brings the Cloud-based computing and storage as well as networking facilities closer to the edge of a network. At the edge of a network, an edge device (a router, a switch) provides the computational, networking and storage facilities, eliminating the need of sending data to a cloud data-center. This leads to elimination of various problems faced when data travels to and fro cloud data centers, like latency issues. Fog provides data processing plus, storage at local site, near network edge, rather than sending all the data back to the cloud center. This article starts with a brief introduction to fog computing, followed by the recent and most accepted fog architecture, later on uses of fog computing in relevance to the current demands and problems faced by various technological sectors like Health, E-commerce, Automatic vehicle management etc and relation to IoT have also been discussed.
