The HEV market, anticipating 2M battery packs per year by 2010, will add 1.3 to 1.6 bill.$, an additional ～20%, to the consumer electronics battery market 3. The trend in the HEV market, similar to consumer electronics market, is toward Li-Ion technologies: better performance, lower material costs, and significantly more R&D expenditures, all favor Li-Ion batteries. 4. The HEV market will eventually adopt Li-ion when the abuse tolerance, low temperature limitations, and cost of such chemistries are brought within the automotive requfrements.
