摘要

This paper presents an investigation on the seismic response control of multi-story buildings using semi-active friction dampers (SAFD) in conjunction with the ordinary braces. Piezoelectric materials are used to control the clamping force of a friction damper so as to regulate the slip force of the damper through simple feedback of stick or slip status of the damper. The performance of SAFD in suppressing structural vibration is assessed by considering first a single-story building under white noise excitation and then a multi-story building under El-centro seismic ground motion. The responses of the buildings with SAFD are compared with those of the buildings without control and with passive friction dampers (PFD). The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of semi-active friction dampers and the robustness and adaptability of the buildings with SAFD to different excitation intensities and damper parameters.
