摘要

The share of electric arc furnace based steel production is increasing - New technologies for the production of virgin raw materials for EAF production are under development and on the market - VAI has a strong position in the field of scrap substitution technologies with their COREX~(~R)-, COREX~(~R)-DR and FINMET~(~R)-technology. In late-1998 the steel plant SALDANHA was started up successfully. This integrated compact mill is using the COREX~(~R)-technology as hot metal and a combined DR-plant as DRI production unit. Also in 1999 the BHB FINMET~(~R) plant Port Headland went on stream.
