RESONANCE OF FLUID IN NARROW JOINT GAPS OF CAISSON-TYPE SEAWALL

In relation to an occurrence of sand leakage and scour around the joints of caisson-type seawall, fluid motions in the joint gaps are investigated from the viewpoint of the damage to the rubber sheets attached to the joints. Especially, this study focuses on 1) whether fluid resonance occurs in the gaps or not, 2) the scale of the wave heights in the gaps at resonance and 3) the conditions at which fluid resonance occurs. In the experiments, it has been confirmed that fluid resonance has occurred in a joint gap, and in a typical case, the wave height in the gap has exceeded 10 times as large as the incident wave height at resonance. A theoretical analysis is also developed using an asymptotic matching method in order to predict the occurrence condition of fluid resonance.
