Non-ductile shear connections in composite flexural members are defined as ones where the connection shear forces cannot effectively re-distribute to a plastic resistance value prior to developing a certain maximum end slip. Typical non-ductile connections are those based on the bond of the concrete, such as the grouted joints between the decking elements and the beam in the shallow floor construction. The paper discusses the effects of the non-ductile shear connections, including the zip-flyer effect and its consequences in the load-deflection behavior of various types of beams. The influence of the beam span, relative connector density and end slip are considered. Typical structural responses, as analysed by the non-linear finite element method are reported.
