The paper presents an improved scheme for the visualization of 3D terrain in real-time using Digital Elevation Model (DEM). The presented method is primarily based on a Real-time Optimally Adapting Mesh (ROAM), and boosts ROAM performance by improving the rendering speed, enhancing the visual continuity and achieving frame rate constancy. Based on the proposed methodoly, Geo-morph Terrain Visualization System (GTVIS) was created. Experimental results confirm striking improvement in the rendering efficiency, frame rate constancy and visual continuity, while preserving important features of the terrain (such as sharp peaks and valleys).
