摘要

Today's demand for improved operating efficiency, low capital, high reliability, and a strong emphasis on safety requires proper selection of oxygen supply systems. An optimum combination of capital and operating costs requires a thorough understanding of the oxygen use patterns and availability requirements. Oxygen enrichment in fuel combustion or feed air increases production, saves fuel and helps preserve the environment. Consequently, oxygen is now increasingly used to improve smelter efficiency and reduce production costs. Supplying oxygen to a copper smelter is a key utility that can benefit operations, throughput, and profitability. Effective oxygen plant asset utilization is critical to the success of the copper smelter operation. It enhances smelter performance and helps avoid unexpected capital costs or failures/downtime. Upgrading to newer technologies, debottlenecking, and other modifications to existing oxygen plants should be considered as a cost effective way to fulfill increasing oxygen usage requirements. In addition, the type of supply, i.e. purchase-of-gas (through SOG, BOO, etc.) versus an outright purchase-of-equipment (SOE) should also be considered. For most mining operations, the preference has been to own the oxygen plant and self-operate it or, alternately, to own the plant and manage costs under a contract for O&M services.
