摘要

The copper smelters of KGHM Polska Miedz S.A. produce over 500,000 tonnes of copper annually. Concentrates are treated in shaft furnaces (Legnica and Glogow I smelters) and in a "direct to blister" flash furnace (Glogow II smelter). This article describes some technical details of both processes, which were selected to suit the specific mineralogical as well as chemical composition of Polish copper concentrates. There are details of matte converting, fire refining as well as electrolytic refining. There is also some selected performance data on availability, energy consumption and copper and silver recoveries. Design details of furnaces are also given: fu rnaces smelting concentrates, Hoboken converters and electric furnace for slag cleaning. Selected aspects of electrolytic refining have also been described with details of the process control technique used. In conclusion, a high standard of environmental protection has been emphasized.
